An Unexpected, Voluntary C-Section

There are a lot of emotions around child birth, be it vaginal or via a major surgery. I had never planned on having a C-section. There was no reason for me to be prepared.

I was steeled for the intense pain of labor and delivery followed by the elation and pride in what my body was capable of doing. But that wasn’t to be. I elected to have a C-section for reasons I’m still not entirely sure of.

It was an ethereal, numbing experience that taught me sometimes you just have to go with the flow and do what your gut says, even if it’s against doctors’ recommendations.

Thank you, Ravishly, for the opportunity to share my story.

I had nary a trace of fear or dread. Just a sense of well-being. Image: Thinkstock.
